Destination DFW is a valuable source for facts about the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. But no single source of information can do justice to the diverse cultures and communities that DFW offers. The best thing to do is take the lead in exploring and discovering the Metroplex for yourself.

If you are feeling a little overwhelmed by all the opportunities DFW offers-relax. It's normal to be intimidated by a move to any new city, especially one as sprawling as DFW. Fortunately DFW isn't just one of the biggest urban areas in the country; it's also one of the friendliest.

Don't be afraid to ask residents about their most loved restaurants, cultural attractions and "off the beaten path" spots for natural beauty. You will find most people are eager to share their personal favorites, and word of mouth recommendations are among the most valuable.

In addition to asking seasoned residents of DFW, another free source of information are guide books and brochures, many of which are provided by hotels or visitors centers. Good resources will be available from area convention and visitor bureaus and the Texas State Office of Economic Development and Tourism.

As you compile a list of must-sees and do's around DFW, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the network of roads, highways and interstates that serve DFW's transportation needs. Take a day or a weekend to drive these roadways so you can better use them to get around. And along the way, don't hesitate to try out restaurants, funky shopping or other sights that catch your eye. Sometimes you can be your own best tour guide.

So take some time, do your research, reach out to your fellow DFW residents, and don't be afraid to blaze your own trail. Pretty soon you will navigate the Metroplex like you lived here all your life.
