Dallas International School (DIS) is a private school in the North Dallas area accredited by the French Ministry of National Education the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest and the International Baccalaureate Organization. It was ranked the #2 Most Challenging Private High School in the Nation in 2014 by the Washington Post.
DIS is the only private school in the Dallas metroplex that offers a multilingual education via an international curriculum that offers a choice of the French Baccalaureate (FB) or the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma upon graduation. Additionally DIS is unique in that its students have the possibility of earning the highly coveted Bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma which gives them an added advantage in the university application process.
DIS has more than 600 students in preschool through grade 12 located on two campuses- the preschool through 4th grade is at 6039 Churchill Way and the 5th through 12th grades are at 17811 Waterview Parkway thus both campuses are easily accessible for residents in Dallas Plano and Richardson.
Academic subjects are taught starting at the age of three in French and English enabling children to achieve fluency in both languages. Spanish instruction is the third language taught at all grade levels and Chinese becomes a language choice in middle school. At the 9th grade level students choose between continuing their education taught in the French language which leads ultimately to the French Baccalaureate Diploma or starting the English high school section where classes are taught in English leading to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Both diplomas are highly regarded and assure admission into virtually any university in the world. Through a unique partnership with the University of Texas at Dallas the DIS high school students have access to sports facilities and career counseling services and exclusive scholarships to UT Dallas are offered to DIS students.
Dallas International School accepts students regardless of race religion gender or nationality. Currently 60% of its students are American 30% French and 10% from other backgrounds. Students receive a unique experience and understanding of cultural differences through the intermingling of the 50 different heritages represented by the student population at DIS. The school has also developed its unique “Country of the Year” program where a country is chosen for a year-long in-depth study across all grade levels to further support the DIS mission of cultural awareness.
Additionally the Dallas International School Language Institute provides instruction for adults and children in all major languages and ESL and a six week Summer Enrichment Program for children ages three through ten years old.
