Where Locals Go Snow Skiing

Unfortunately, Texas does not have any natural snow-covered mountains suitable for snow skiing. However, there are a few options for snow skiing near Texas:

1. SKI Apache! in Ruidoso, NM: This is the closest ski resort to Texas, located about 260 miles from El Paso and 350 miles from Dallas. It offers 55 trails, a variety of terrain for all skill levels, and a snowmaking system that guarantees good skiing conditions throughout the winter.

2. TAOS Ski Valley in Taos, NM: This legendary ski resort is known for its challenging terrain and stunning scenery. It’s a bit further from Texas than Ski Apache, but it definitely worth the drive for experienced skiers and snowboarders.

3. SKI New Mexico: New Mexico boasts several other ski resorts within driving distance of Texas, including Angel Fire Resort, Red River Ski & Summer Area, and Pajarito Mountain Ski Area. Each offers unique terrain and amenities, catering to different skill levels and interests.

4. Indoor Ski Resorts: Texas has two indoor ski resorts where you can enjoy snow skiing year-round:

  • Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunfels: This resort features a 400-foot-long snow tubing hill and a snow play area, making it a great option for families with young children.
  • UBSki in Austin: This resort offers a 300-foot-long ski slope, a terrain park, and even ice skating.

CONSIDERATIONS:

Travel Time: Consider the driving distance from your location and the time commitment involved.

Skill Level: Choose a resort that offers terrain suitable for your skiing or snowboarding experience.

Amenities: Think about what kind of amenities are important to you, such as lodging, dining, and après-ski activities.

Budget: Compare prices for lift tickets, rentals, and other expenses before making your decision.
